Offer configurability for mobile devices
Offer the same category, URL and keyword filtering tools in your iOS version as you do on the desktop. I very much like the new iOS browser!
It would be great to have an option to block chosen keywords and url's in K9 Android version (in my case Samsung Galaxy S3), so it can work in different languages as well.
Give the user the ability to add sites to block on your Android system for both Galaxy, IPod, IPad, IPhone, and Android phones.
It will be really good. thanks
Would be good to have this feature similar to the desktop
It would be helpful to specify the URLs of sites to block that may otherwise not be blocked. For example, there are various photo sharing websites that are not pornographic but certain users of the sites do load such images and they don't always get cleared off by site admins.
Likewise, another feature would be to indicate which sites may be allowed passed filtering.
modify parameter of the android version as the computer version
I am able to change my setting on my desktop version, but I need the same safeguards/settings for my android phone and kindle fire classic...
I would like to be able to individually set the block/allow function for each major category with K9on my iPad. Similar to what I can do with K9 on our PC.
Add the "Always Block" feature that the Mac OS laptop feature has to IOS and other Smart Phones. The "Always Block" feature is one of the primary reasons I use K9 - it allows K9 to keep pace with new, inappropriate content that is constantly being posted on the Internet. For self-monitors such as myself, the "Always Block" feature gives me the accountability I want, blocking sites that slip through the K9 filter. For parents with children, this would allow them to block sites that K9 might miss, and it would offer parents a truly "foolproof" web surfing experience for their children. This feature is wonderful for the Mac OS, and if added to the IOS and other Smart Phones, it would put K9 a giant step above the competition.
Provide the "Always Block" Feature for the IOS and other Smart Phones that the actual MAC OS laptop K9 version has. For self-monitors such as myself, this is a great accountability tool that made me choose K9 for my laptop. For parents monitoring their children, this feature would allow them to block websites that K9 Web Browser Protection might miss. The "Always Block" feature puts K9 a step above the competition by giving users a truly "foolproof" Web browsing experience. Since hundreds of new websites with offensive material are created every day, the "Always Block" feature allows K9 to keep up with the fast pace at which new material is being posted on the Internet. Reading other users' posts, the "Always Block" feature is a major hit for K9. Adding this feature to the IOS and other Smart Phones will only increase K9's popularity and effectiveness.
The K9 is great on android but it would be even better if you could custom filter for your family. Also it would allow it to work the same as desktop by entering the password to allow a site for a limited time, or always allow or always block etc. thanks
can you make it possible for us to temporarily access blocked sites on our droids by using a password just like we do on our desktop. it's pointless to use my phone for internet use if everything is blocked and i can't gain access to it.
On the PC, if you come to a page that is block, you can allow access via a password. This isnt available on the IOS version.
Offer the same category, URL and keyword filtering tools in your android version as you do on the desktop.
To block specific websites in K9 ipad/iphone app.
Some sites like google and youtube I really need, but there are blocked under open image/ media search. There should be more settings and options like the computer versions. (McGruff did a pretty good job doing this)
In K9 for Pc we have the ability to define the categories. In Android we don't have and I saw that I'm still able to get in Google Appl store inappropriate games
To have the posibility to block all the images in the mobile browser like opera did
Make the app more like the full version with category control, even if it had to be based on a user account that required sign in before using. At very least if there were a low, medium, high filtering option parents could choose one option and addicts another based on their need.
I cant find how to allow a blocked website on my child's Ipod
Until K9 is configurable, it is useless to me on my Android. I will try it again once this has been corrected.
Please update the K9 app with the ability to put certain websites you want to allow for viewing on the "always allow" exceptions list, like you can on a pc. And also the ability to adjust and personalize filtering options.
- block everything! except what is in the whitelist!
The Android version needs to be customizeable. I want to block bad videos and images and scams and pop-ups but i am an adult and doing research for a writing project and it blocks sites that I need to view. I want to choose what is blocked as it seems is possible on the PC. Create a menu in the Android app allowing the password host to choose the categories of content that are blocked.
On the K9 app, there is no way to personally customize what is filtered like on the computer version. This makes it extremely frustrating when I want to access something that is blocked that I don't want to be blocked. Please make the app able to be customized for custom filters!
Currently the android app is a catch all and does not provide for customization of the web filtering.
make the K9 Web Protection for iPhone to allow to block certain websites / URLs, not just on a computer / laptop, but on a phone as well.
I cannot unblock a category or web site on iPod. This means I need to switch Safari back on and use it to facilitate Google images for example. I think this would enhance the app beyond doubt.
Kids can access social sites/dating and become prey to illicit images and cyberstalkers.
Some sites like scribd.com for example are not currently blocked and for some users, they'd like to have the option to block certain sites!
This would be useful as many kids now use iPads exclusively for their Internet access.
Please add the time restrictions to your awesome product for Ipod and I pads. Maybe I missed it but I couldn't configure time limits on the ipad like I can for windows.
The application is awesome running through the K9 search engine. The most frustrating thing about the IPOD is the inability to limit internet use by time. To insure they are not using it under the covers you have to confiscate or pull the plug on the router.
Offer users of Android the ability to choose settings according to their own needs.
can we have the same features as we do on the windows version for Android. i.e block specific words on searches and also tailor what features we can turn off and on from the catergory list.
Good app but easy to bypass. One thing is to simply do a google search for "wet tshirt contest" and it will block images but not websites which have unfiltered images and videos. It would be nice to set a specific keyword block like you can on the PC version. Keep up the good work guys!
The mobile version of K9 (I am using the Android version) has no filter options.
I use K9 for personal accountability- avoiding pornography.
However, as a web developer, computer science major and avid surfer, the other filters K9 imposes are impractical and crippling.
The desktop software allows the disabling of all filters but the adult content filter, a feature which I appreciate greatly. It would be wonderful if the mobile version also supported this selective filtering.
As on the windows version, I would like to define myself, what categrories are allowed, e.g. block everything (including unknown) but kids content.
Have a PIN set in setings on app. On blocked page, have a button to "Override", and allow site to be viewed. This is like the Parental controls on the Mac.
Option to block facebook website & app on Android. Facebook has a lot of inappropriate pictures. Please allow option to block it.
Desperately need to configure k9 on android tablets, in order to block and unblock game sites! My 5th grader tries to play online games when he's supposed to be doing an online math course. It would be great if I could block game sites until he's done his work daily. Alternatively, if he knows I get an email alert whenever he goes to game sites or watches online videos, that would be a great deterrent as well as let me know what sites he's visited. Thanks for a great product!
I use the net a lot to look for utilities,
drivers, antivirus, etc. and usually I have to tell K9 to allow the
site where I find those hard to get programs
When you select the option to block the market on android phones it should also block the play store on Google. There are video download apps that have a low maturity rating on the market that have uncensored browsers in them that k9 does not redirect and is an easy loophole. A simple blacklist would work for this as well.
here's hoping this is already planned as the mobile apps are still being actively improved. I'm hoping that the recently introduced self-moderating option for the desktop version will be incorporated into the mobile app (I use android). This allows people who use the program to self-censor, particularly ppl with addiction or temptation struggles, to blacklist a site without needing the password. Ideally this could be presemted as an option on the dropdown menu just like the bookmark option.
Thanks again to the devs for the work they're putting into this free service!
I think it would be great to have options for blocking internet at certain times, blocking certain key words, websites and categories. Basically the computer version, but for and Android. We love you guys, thanks for this great service your providing! :-)
I need to be able to block specific sites on my daughter's android phone that have inappropriate content...like MANGA and ANIME. Can this be done on Android phone
like it can be done on my laptop?
Add allowing of blocked websites on K9 for Android browser. Some YouTube videos I can only watch in my browser and not the app on my Android. But since this site is blocked I can not watch these videos. I would like to allow (whitelist) sites to solve this issue.
A user should be allowed to specify sites to be blocked just like you can for the desktop version.
I do not want facebook MySpace twitter etc sites to be accessed from my I pad, ability to block these sites would be great.
Iphone/Ipad app is not powerful at all. I can't block anything I want to specifically block. For example, craigslist is not blockable - it has adult personal/dating adds on it! Hello!!! Also why won't it log activity like the windows client?
let each individual customize their own protection sequence so I can manually select which sites should be blocked. for example: i wanna unblock YouTube.
To be able to manually block websites and search categories on the iPad, and have access to a detail search report regularly emailed to you.
I deleted Safari on my iPad and now I don't know how to control K9.
Now I can't even go on Google any more!
Hi,
Q: What if K9 blocks something I don't want it to block?
A: After you enter the correct password on the "Block" page, you can tell K9 to permit that Web site. If you think we have a site in the wrong category, you can also tell us about it from right there on the "Block" page.
My question is the same as the question above, but only that it is for K9 Iphone app. I have downloaded the app, but cannot find the option to allow certain websites. Please help
It would be great to be able to filter content based on Catagories like nudity, gambling, etc. Similar to the URL Catagories as provided by the packet shaper and the proxy sg, you could limit what kind of content your children see. The iPad is used by many children.
This is a great app. However there is still a lot of stuff on the Internet that certain people shouldn't be able to access. The best way to block it is to add keywords blocking to the app. Also, make it so that the app needs a password to be customized. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
The Ability to flag a bad site on the iphone app for review to block it or to have some block controls similar to on the web browser (url not to allow)
This app is not as restrictive as needed for people who want to restrict "other sites" not already categorised as bad.
K9 is great, but as you know there are always loopholes. And until those loopholes are dealt with I would like to block certain websites specifically (as is possible in the PC version. So, I think it would be great if I could password protect some modifications to K9 on my ipod. I hope others want the same thing. thanks
I really like the K9 version I have on my computer. However, the K9 app on the iPad doesn't allow me to customize the filtering like I have on my computer. Please create a way so I can sync the filtering on the iPad with what I am filtering on my computer. I would be willing to pay for this function.
I am a pastor and I love k9 because it allows me to search without worry of what will come up. However I need to have access to YouTube and other websited that stream music. Please allow me to change what is blocked. Until then I cannot use this web browser :(
Smart Phone saved history lock
Apologies if this has already been suggested, but Facebook is still accessible via the K9 browser for the iTouch/iPhone. Can this be blocked?
On the my home computer I can block certain blogs that contain porn. but on the mobile version there needs to be a way to either block or email k9 to block it.
It would be nice to override the blocked content with admin credentials (password) so that I can go to a place like YouTube to so non offensive content. In other words there is content on YouTube that is beneficial to me, but I'm not allowed to anything. I am only told that the content is blocked and I can't do anything else.
I know this feature is available on the PC but not on an iOS device.
create a block site function on the iphone app
It would be great if one could customize the app on ipod or ipad according to one's needs and likes - at the moment the settings are fixed.
More user control to block different types of search words e.g. models
I tested the product today, liked it. Noticed that photobucket and flickr were not listed as open image/media storage, but they sure seem to be in the same family as google images... by the way, nice job on google images.
K9 browser doesn't block everything (art sites, etc), so allowing custom website entry for the iPod would be good
Customizable iPad app. Version 1 is very limited.
it needs a white and black list capability and better photo filters. Amazing what you can still see even in safe mode. Concerns me for my teens! But a great start for iPhone, thanks a bunch!
iPhone app is a great start. However, we must have customized blocking. I've already found sites that K9's iPhone app missed. Please do an update and let us know via email! I'm so happy the app was made.
I got the mobile app for my son's iPad & iPhone, but There are some websites that I want to block and unblock specifically, so he can use them.

Why are are the other top 4 or 5 feature requests under review and this number one request is not? I don't know much about IT or iphone apps but I suspect this feature can't easily be "added" and may require a complete overhaul of the mobile app in order to support this.

I came across this post searching for instructions on how to customize my iphone k9 browser app. From reading the posts it appears this is not a feature? Like one user said, there's tons of mainstream sites that someone can access inappropriate content on like twitter.

not only that there is a workaround the k9 browser in android. Maybe they could work on that too. The desktop k9 is really good Id say best in this category.

A blacklist option is an absolute necessity. There are too many mainstream sites where porn is readily available not blocked; Twitter is the most prominent example. It'd be the thing that puts the K9 mobile browser leagues above its competitors. I also would desire a 'whitelist' feature, whereby sites normally blocked by K9 can be unblocked. The only problem with that is that one could unblock any site; I can't think of a way around that.

This would be perfect if you just added URL blocking! There are only 2 additional sites that are not blocked and I want to block but your whole app is useless since I don't have the ability to block these sites. I'm going to have to look for another app because of this.

Having a "blacklist" feature so that we can block sites that K9 hasn't covered yet is crucial. Or have a page where we can identify sites that should be blocked so that K9 can add them to the list.

This is a fantastic idea. Many different websites that offer adult material that are not filtered out by K9 on mobile devices. Highly agree and suggest the implementation of this feature in the next update

I BEG the makers of this product to at LEAST include the ability to block specific websites. I hate having temptations and knowing I could reach into my pocket and look at such shameful sites. Please thoroughly consider this idea; it is the best one I've seen yet.

It is frustrating that certain sites cannot be whitelisted or blacklisted. I know that K9 offers this option on other platforms and it's very disappointing that configuration was not an option on the android version. K9 would have been top notch if only this feature had been included. We would like to be able to whitelist Youtube. As we aren't able to do so and this is a big deal for our teenage son, we find it necessary to uninstall and search for another filtering option.

I was surprised by all the holes in my phone that my pc easily blocks out. A lot of tempting urls still. K9 is still the best though. So blocking those and key words would be nice.

There are sites that are not blocked that contain explicit material. Without the black/white list functionality there is no way to patch holes that we notice in the filter. Even still this is the best blocker I've found.

I was extremely impressed by the quality and configurability of the desktop app, and extremely disappointed and annoyed when I found that I couldn't configure the iOS version. Not to mention the app icon screams "BABYSITTER" in a way that no child, teenager or adult should have to display on their phone. Will delete this app until the quality and discretion matches that of the original.

I agree. I tried the android browser briefly but deleted it once I found that I could not blacklist/whitelist certain sites! Add this and URL filtering and I will download! Hurry up, I've been waiting a LOOONG time for a feature like this!

I think it'd be a good idea if you could set up your iphone/android restricted blacklisted, and unrestricted white-listed, sites from a central PC or Mac on which the K9 app has been installed.
So the main computer has to be accessed in order to OK the content that can be viewed on the mobile device. If, for example, you've installed K9 on your work PC and set up your restricted sites, you can then enter an ip address or link to your mobile device which will only then be able to display the sites you've OK'd on this central computer.
That way, you'll have to actually physically travel to that PC to arrange what you can view.
