Offer configurability for mobile devices
Offer the same category, URL and keyword filtering tools in your iOS version as you do on the desktop. I very much like the new iOS browser!
I would realy like it if the android app could be updated. A good feature can be a web site black list. And more features like in the desktop application. gratzi
I really want to use k9 on my android device. But the strict filtering and non config issue just drives me away from it.
Would it be possible to forward a concern for the app? I was wondering if
it would be possible to block certain sites as the administrator,
specifically twitter since a user can access pornography through the K9
browser on the twitter website.
Again I love your company and how much it has helped me and I truly
appreciate all the things you do. Keep up the good work and have a great
iOS8 iPad configuration - it is ridiculous that at this very late stage the browser is entirely pointless at present on any Apple device ....hello. is anyone listening!
During browsing on a mobile device, it would be great to have the option to just block the site as you have in the desktop version.
My husband is now turning more towards his phone to look at porn because our computer is now safe and blocked but our phones do not have as high of blocks.
i think u need to get that configuration because a lot of people uninstall the app thru that reason
Self moderator for iPhone. How can I block specific sites on my k9 browser on my phone. Some sites, for example flickr are not blocked on my k9 browse
every now and again, I find inappropriate sites that have "fallen thru the cracks" I would like to be able to add a site to my "always block" list the way I can on the desktop version
On windows version you have a blocking function you can press when you come across a questionable site- if I remember correctly. Can you do same for IPad version. This could also automatically be linked it a recovery/ help site for people with internet addictions etc
Also forcing users to have 2 accountability buddy's would help who automatically receive weekly reports. This may help facilitate a discussion from supportive/ trusted friends/ family etc
There are some sites, like Netflix, that aren't blocked on an Android device, which can cause problems for me. I'd like to see the website exceptions feature for the Android, like it is on my computer.
When will we see a new update to the Android version? I notice it hasn't been updated for over a year. There are a few things that I'd like to see in the new version:
1- block ability to force close
2- add back in black- and white-lists
3- more customization regarding categories to block (similar to the computer version)
That being said, I really enjoy using this on my desktop and laptop machines. This filters stuff out wonderfully. The android version I have on my phone works well, except for the lack of customization mentioned above and the easy ability to bypass the app.
I installed k9 on my tablet but the options to customize settings as I do on my laptop are limited. As example, I want the option to set restricted and always allow sites, also to tempo rarity allow a site with the administrator password.
Give the ability to allow categories on the iPad version because is present on the desktop but not on the iOS
This feature is present on the desktop but for some reason not the iPad version
give me the ability to setup my Android like my computer I'm the one that needs the protection. Thanks
When something is blocked, allow a temporary override on the Android phones like the computer software allows.
Offer Keyword blocking on iPhone App as I can type in the following "male nudists" and it will access several Websites, specifically BlogSpot.com that contains male nudists blogs containing photo's. I've found a few for females but more for males. Also the ability to choose sites to block, again, such as BlogSpot.com
The iPhone app or k9 is great for staying protected on the go, but it has become slightly outdated. Are there any plans to update it to iOS 7? If not, would it be possible that I create the app and run it through your filtering system? I would be fantastic to have the app updated so that it looks like iOS 7, mimics Safari (full screen and other new features), and had customizable categories for filtering. Thank you for your time.
Have an update for the iphone app that doesn't allow people to get to unblocked search engines through other apps. For example I can get to an unblocked search engine, Google, through my facebook app then through the facebook app I can search anything I want too. Please make it where I can use other app and not get to search engines/ other website through these apps.
Please implement a YouTube filter into the iOS browser (as in desktop version).
Just like the functionality on PC have the ability to set time restrictions and even have the ability to be able to block sites by naming them. So that they are included in the time restriction.
I've already installed K9 in my Galaxy S but I can't see videos on youtube because youtube is rated Open Image / Media Search, and that category is blocked, so it would be good be able to create lists of web sites to always block or always allow.
for the mobile Android version, add a black/white list for pages. Time restrictions as to when the browser can be accessed. Please:) and I'm not sure if this is the place but sometimes I have trouble with the browser being functional at all, meaning it won't load any page sometimes I have the Samsung note 3
To make the mobile version similar to the desktop version with abilty to edit categories or to block apps or time limitations.
Could you please block twitter on the android app. I am able to access pornographic pictures through twitter. Eg (k9 search twitter bangbros). Again this is for the App. Is there a way to block sites with the app?
for the android a lock so they can't reboot their phone without the password. also would be nice to have internet activity emailed to you if possible. also, a big thing would be a way of blocking specific/key words or websites like personals and such in the website.
If for the K9 app there could be an option to block certain sites or if you could add certain sites to your default block list, namely twitter and pinterest. Especially since these sites can't be blocked by the bookmark blocking option outside of password protection for the desktop browser. I would really appreciate it if opting to block a site could be an added feature to the app.
I would like to be able to turn on the Advanced Youtube Filter feature on my ipod, but don't see that as an option offered.
Allow time restrictions for Ipads and Iphones. I have used this feature for the desktop, but would like to have the same ability on all my childrens devices.
The customizable filtering settings that you use on the computer browser should be logged into and used on iOS.
add allow/deny features for websites. Is the best feature in the desktop version
Mode for people who want to heal from Internet addiction (self-control protection) which allows adding "problem" websites to the Always Block list without needing the admin password. Specifically Android OS.
Im using the app for android and i think is grate, but dont let me use YouTube and i need it for my Job. What can i do?
I can't choose what K9 should block on my iPhone which is not as I want to customize it by my self.
I need to block access to twitter on my app - you can easily access porn on twitter
The ability to allow certain websites should be available for iPads as well !
We, parents, need the have the ability to configure K9 url's that the kids are accessing. I have always supported the product. Thank you
I think that k9 blocks sites that I think are appropriate.
Make the k9 app customizable. It doesn't block everything it should, and it won't let you customize the app, just on the computer
It would be really useful to enable users to add a specific website, that is blocked as part of a category, to a white list. This white list will then be accessible by the administrator who can then simply click on each site to authorize access. This will save having to ask the administrator to manually allow every site that the user wishes to access.
Because the Android version doesn't allow customization and stupidly blocks everything without allowing for user control, when I use the voice search in Google Maps it opens a K9 browser rather than searching the map and finding the location I need navigated to. It's dangerous and illegal for me to input the address or location by hand when driving but your software doesn't allow me to do a voice search in the Google Maps app.
I had the normal google browser, and found myself on porn sites. I don't want to be able to access those but I don't want my interest to be too limited, I would still like to access YouTube. I cannot find how to whitelist websites on this android version, it looks like that feature is available on other OS's.
Why can't I use the same options for filtering as per windows desktop version of k9?
How do you access and manage blocked sites with K9 iOS app for iPad?
Please provide the ability to restrict internet access by time of day on mobile devices. This is the single most useful application on the desktop version. It will allow a user to block the internet entirely on mobile devices, which is not possible at all on the i-phone, and only possible on android by rooting the phone (which can void the warranty or "brick" the phone).
A feature for blacklisting or a way to submit a website so you, K9, can block it would be tremendously helpful. Websites like pinterest, that seem harmless, are indeed not and there is no way to block them on the mobile IOS. Pinterest contains a lot of pornography, even though people don't think it does, and it can be blocked as an app in the restrictions in settings, but in the k9 web browser it can be accessed and kids now days get on that site all the time.
Please allow the changing of categories to block. Use same categories that are on desk top version. windows used for android.
There is a sports website K9 does not block on the computer but does block on the Galaxy S4 phone (android)..Not sure why this is but there are no options to allow certain websites or adjust anything like I can on the computer.
set up a functionality where we could get on the iPhone and set the K9 to always allow certain websites.
have the option to block social media on Android version
I would really like to have the advanced youtube filtering tool available for android devices specially for galaxy phones. K9 is the best
Idea is in the title...please help with this.
Block sites you don't want to see or be temp. to look at.
Be able to "allow" certain sites like youtube, etc
I noticed on my android device that i can access wikipedia and the bikini waxing section (with its pictures!!!) also i was able to search vagina in Wikipedia which gave me some interesting pics as well. I was wondering if there was a feature for admins to restrict webpages, if this does not exist can this option be created for desktop and android devices? If it already exists (i was not able to find it) please help me find it
Make configuration ability to android similar to desktop version. So certain catagories can be allowed.
Can customisable filtering of web addresses and Apps be added Androids. It would allow additional websites t be blocked as well as defining web sites that shouldn't be blocked
I agree with comments posted with regards to time restrictions, but we really need them for iOS platforms for kids specific.
I'm OK if they have specific times during the day for access, homework etc., but this needs to be coupled with remote access to extend this time if required! The issue is to monitor how much time they are spending on-line in total, and to help them be more accountable, especially during the school week. We need to help them see the value of time more fully and that they need to use their time on the internet more profitably for homework, instead of just games!
This is especially important when both parents are working and there is a lag time from when they get home and the first parent arrives back...this is very important, especially as most kids devices are mobile or hand-held!
I would really appreciate your feedback on this one...
It would be great to have an option to block chosen keywords and url's in K9 Android version (in my case Samsung Galaxy S3), so it can work in different languages as well.
Give the user the ability to add sites to block on your Android system for both Galaxy, IPod, IPad, IPhone, and Android phones.
It will be really good. thanks
Would be good to have this feature similar to the desktop
It would be helpful to specify the URLs of sites to block that may otherwise not be blocked. For example, there are various photo sharing websites that are not pornographic but certain users of the sites do load such images and they don't always get cleared off by site admins.
Likewise, another feature would be to indicate which sites may be allowed passed filtering.
modify parameter of the android version as the computer version
I am able to change my setting on my desktop version, but I need the same safeguards/settings for my android phone and kindle fire classic...
I would like to be able to individually set the block/allow function for each major category with K9on my iPad. Similar to what I can do with K9 on our PC.
Add the "Always Block" feature that the Mac OS laptop feature has to IOS and other Smart Phones. The "Always Block" feature is one of the primary reasons I use K9 - it allows K9 to keep pace with new, inappropriate content that is constantly being posted on the Internet. For self-monitors such as myself, the "Always Block" feature gives me the accountability I want, blocking sites that slip through the K9 filter. For parents with children, this would allow them to block sites that K9 might miss, and it would offer parents a truly "foolproof" web surfing experience for their children. This feature is wonderful for the Mac OS, and if added to the IOS and other Smart Phones, it would put K9 a giant step above the competition.
Provide the "Always Block" Feature for the IOS and other Smart Phones that the actual MAC OS laptop K9 version has. For self-monitors such as myself, this is a great accountability tool that made me choose K9 for my laptop. For parents monitoring their children, this feature would allow them to block websites that K9 Web Browser Protection might miss. The "Always Block" feature puts K9 a step above the competition by giving users a truly "foolproof" Web browsing experience. Since hundreds of new websites with offensive material are created every day, the "Always Block" feature allows K9 to keep up with the fast pace at which new material is being posted on the Internet. Reading other users' posts, the "Always Block" feature is a major hit for K9. Adding this feature to the IOS and other Smart Phones will only increase K9's popularity and effectiveness.
The K9 is great on android but it would be even better if you could custom filter for your family. Also it would allow it to work the same as desktop by entering the password to allow a site for a limited time, or always allow or always block etc. thanks
can you make it possible for us to temporarily access blocked sites on our droids by using a password just like we do on our desktop. it's pointless to use my phone for internet use if everything is blocked and i can't gain access to it.
On the PC, if you come to a page that is block, you can allow access via a password. This isnt available on the IOS version.
Offer the same category, URL and keyword filtering tools in your android version as you do on the desktop.
To block specific websites in K9 ipad/iphone app.
Some sites like google and youtube I really need, but there are blocked under open image/ media search. There should be more settings and options like the computer versions. (McGruff did a pretty good job doing this)
In K9 for Pc we have the ability to define the categories. In Android we don't have and I saw that I'm still able to get in Google Appl store inappropriate games
To have the posibility to block all the images in the mobile browser like opera did
Make the app more like the full version with category control, even if it had to be based on a user account that required sign in before using. At very least if there were a low, medium, high filtering option parents could choose one option and addicts another based on their need.
I cant find how to allow a blocked website on my child's Ipod
Until K9 is configurable, it is useless to me on my Android. I will try it again once this has been corrected.
Please update the K9 app with the ability to put certain websites you want to allow for viewing on the "always allow" exceptions list, like you can on a pc. And also the ability to adjust and personalize filtering options.
- block everything! except what is in the whitelist!
The Android version needs to be customizeable. I want to block bad videos and images and scams and pop-ups but i am an adult and doing research for a writing project and it blocks sites that I need to view. I want to choose what is blocked as it seems is possible on the PC. Create a menu in the Android app allowing the password host to choose the categories of content that are blocked.
On the K9 app, there is no way to personally customize what is filtered like on the computer version. This makes it extremely frustrating when I want to access something that is blocked that I don't want to be blocked. Please make the app able to be customized for custom filters!
Currently the android app is a catch all and does not provide for customization of the web filtering.
make the K9 Web Protection for iPhone to allow to block certain websites / URLs, not just on a computer / laptop, but on a phone as well.
I cannot unblock a category or web site on iPod. This means I need to switch Safari back on and use it to facilitate Google images for example. I think this would enhance the app beyond doubt.
Kids can access social sites/dating and become prey to illicit images and cyberstalkers.
Some sites like scribd.com for example are not currently blocked and for some users, they'd like to have the option to block certain sites!
This would be useful as many kids now use iPads exclusively for their Internet access.
Please add the time restrictions to your awesome product for Ipod and I pads. Maybe I missed it but I couldn't configure time limits on the ipad like I can for windows.
The application is awesome running through the K9 search engine. The most frustrating thing about the IPOD is the inability to limit internet use by time. To insure they are not using it under the covers you have to confiscate or pull the plug on the router.
Offer users of Android the ability to choose settings according to their own needs.
can we have the same features as we do on the windows version for Android. i.e block specific words on searches and also tailor what features we can turn off and on from the catergory list.
Good app but easy to bypass. One thing is to simply do a google search for "wet tshirt contest" and it will block images but not websites which have unfiltered images and videos. It would be nice to set a specific keyword block like you can on the PC version. Keep up the good work guys!
The mobile version of K9 (I am using the Android version) has no filter options.
I use K9 for personal accountability- avoiding pornography.
However, as a web developer, computer science major and avid surfer, the other filters K9 imposes are impractical and crippling.
The desktop software allows the disabling of all filters but the adult content filter, a feature which I appreciate greatly. It would be wonderful if the mobile version also supported this selective filtering.
As on the windows version, I would like to define myself, what categrories are allowed, e.g. block everything (including unknown) but kids content.
Have a PIN set in setings on app. On blocked page, have a button to "Override", and allow site to be viewed. This is like the Parental controls on the Mac.
Option to block facebook website & app on Android. Facebook has a lot of inappropriate pictures. Please allow option to block it.
Desperately need to configure k9 on android tablets, in order to block and unblock game sites! My 5th grader tries to play online games when he's supposed to be doing an online math course. It would be great if I could block game sites until he's done his work daily. Alternatively, if he knows I get an email alert whenever he goes to game sites or watches online videos, that would be a great deterrent as well as let me know what sites he's visited. Thanks for a great product!
I use the net a lot to look for utilities,
drivers, antivirus, etc. and usually I have to tell K9 to allow the
site where I find those hard to get programs
When you select the option to block the market on android phones it should also block the play store on Google. There are video download apps that have a low maturity rating on the market that have uncensored browsers in them that k9 does not redirect and is an easy loophole. A simple blacklist would work for this as well.
here's hoping this is already planned as the mobile apps are still being actively improved. I'm hoping that the recently introduced self-moderating option for the desktop version will be incorporated into the mobile app (I use android). This allows people who use the program to self-censor, particularly ppl with addiction or temptation struggles, to blacklist a site without needing the password. Ideally this could be presemted as an option on the dropdown menu just like the bookmark option.
Thanks again to the devs for the work they're putting into this free service!
I think it would be great to have options for blocking internet at certain times, blocking certain key words, websites and categories. Basically the computer version, but for and Android. We love you guys, thanks for this great service your providing! :-)
I need to be able to block specific sites on my daughter's android phone that have inappropriate content...like MANGA and ANIME. Can this be done on Android phone
like it can be done on my laptop?
Add allowing of blocked websites on K9 for Android browser. Some YouTube videos I can only watch in my browser and not the app on my Android. But since this site is blocked I can not watch these videos. I would like to allow (whitelist) sites to solve this issue.
A user should be allowed to specify sites to be blocked just like you can for the desktop version.
I do not want facebook MySpace twitter etc sites to be accessed from my I pad, ability to block these sites would be great.
Iphone/Ipad app is not powerful at all. I can't block anything I want to specifically block. For example, craigslist is not blockable - it has adult personal/dating adds on it! Hello!!! Also why won't it log activity like the windows client?
let each individual customize their own protection sequence so I can manually select which sites should be blocked. for example: i wanna unblock YouTube.
To be able to manually block websites and search categories on the iPad, and have access to a detail search report regularly emailed to you.
I deleted Safari on my iPad and now I don't know how to control K9.
Now I can't even go on Google any more!
Q: What if K9 blocks something I don't want it to block?
A: After you enter the correct password on the "Block" page, you can tell K9 to permit that Web site. If you think we have a site in the wrong category, you can also tell us about it from right there on the "Block" page.
My question is the same as the question above, but only that it is for K9 Iphone app. I have downloaded the app, but cannot find the option to allow certain websites. Please help
It would be great to be able to filter content based on Catagories like nudity, gambling, etc. Similar to the URL Catagories as provided by the packet shaper and the proxy sg, you could limit what kind of content your children see. The iPad is used by many children.
This is a great app. However there is still a lot of stuff on the Internet that certain people shouldn't be able to access. The best way to block it is to add keywords blocking to the app. Also, make it so that the app needs a password to be customized. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
The Ability to flag a bad site on the iphone app for review to block it or to have some block controls similar to on the web browser (url not to allow)
This app is not as restrictive as needed for people who want to restrict "other sites" not already categorised as bad.
K9 is great, but as you know there are always loopholes. And until those loopholes are dealt with I would like to block certain websites specifically (as is possible in the PC version. So, I think it would be great if I could password protect some modifications to K9 on my ipod. I hope others want the same thing. thanks
I really like the K9 version I have on my computer. However, the K9 app on the iPad doesn't allow me to customize the filtering like I have on my computer. Please create a way so I can sync the filtering on the iPad with what I am filtering on my computer. I would be willing to pay for this function.
I am a pastor and I love k9 because it allows me to search without worry of what will come up. However I need to have access to YouTube and other websited that stream music. Please allow me to change what is blocked. Until then I cannot use this web browser :(
Smart Phone saved history lock
Apologies if this has already been suggested, but Facebook is still accessible via the K9 browser for the iTouch/iPhone. Can this be blocked?
On the my home computer I can block certain blogs that contain porn. but on the mobile version there needs to be a way to either block or email k9 to block it.
It would be nice to override the blocked content with admin credentials (password) so that I can go to a place like YouTube to so non offensive content. In other words there is content on YouTube that is beneficial to me, but I'm not allowed to anything. I am only told that the content is blocked and I can't do anything else.
I know this feature is available on the PC but not on an iOS device.
create a block site function on the iphone app
It would be great if one could customize the app on ipod or ipad according to one's needs and likes - at the moment the settings are fixed.
More user control to block different types of search words e.g. models
I tested the product today, liked it. Noticed that photobucket and flickr were not listed as open image/media storage, but they sure seem to be in the same family as google images... by the way, nice job on google images.
K9 browser doesn't block everything (art sites, etc), so allowing custom website entry for the iPod would be good
Customizable iPad app. Version 1 is very limited.
it needs a white and black list capability and better photo filters. Amazing what you can still see even in safe mode. Concerns me for my teens! But a great start for iPhone, thanks a bunch!
iPhone app is a great start. However, we must have customized blocking. I've already found sites that K9's iPhone app missed. Please do an update and let us know via email! I'm so happy the app was made.
I got the mobile app for my son's iPad & iPhone, but There are some websites that I want to block and unblock specifically, so he can use them.
It would be great to have K9 Web Protection Administration page on android device too.
I need to tune what to filter and decide what to alllow or not, choose keywords, thematic sections, as we can do on desktop. At the moment on android devices you don't have any protection, if you don't pass throught k9 browser. On desktop you can use other browsers and you still have protection. I'd like the same on android.
Please update me when the K9 app for Kindle is updated and allows more specialized configurations.
please do this asap
Actually I love the browser just as it is except I'd like to see all social networking removed as well. Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Groups.
All these can be accessed by apps and are not necessary for the browser.
URL and Keyword filtering please. Without it, the web protection only Blocks so much. It's still the best on the mobile market that I know of. However it's not at all as helpful as the computer version. Thank you.
Please add the "allow/block specific webpages" functionality. In addition add the "block site" option that adds a site to the "always block" list without having to enter the administrators password - for the self-moderators.
I need to be able to block specific websites. If we could block just video or just TV/Movies that would be great. It would also be good to have access to Google images. Thanks
Please make the app for cell phones compatible with the latest software version of Android and iOS. I was protected on my old phone and I got a new one and now I'm not. I was recommending this app to everyone I knew, but now that it doesn't work on newer phones I will no longer recommend it, unless these changes are made. This protects myself and my family and it needs to be changed. I'd even be willing to pay a small monthly fee (as I am sure many of my friends and others would be willing as well) to support the changes that need to be made to ensure that this will function properly and protect my family from the filth that can be found online. Please take this in to consideration.
We need to be able to allow/block specific webpages with a password like the computer version. I don't want my child to access social media through this app.
It is also necessary to Android
It's recommended for android like in the pc-version.
Also could be made available for IPhone/ Android etc
I find the fact that there's no mobile configuration outrageously annoying. I can never access youtube links, and it's constantly blocking categories I don't want it too, such as dating sites.
This is THE top voted idea and it's not under review. WHY??
Really need this
You also need to update the Android app to support 4.2!
Please make available for the android also the white list options and the time control
Emilian Barbu commented
Please I really miss the filtering setting for "Always block" and "Always allow" for the Android app. It will be hugely appreciated!
I hope that I'll very soon have the option to custumize my k9 filter on android too. when will this happen?
Website category customization would be really nice.
