Cleaner, more user-friendly, with the option to export to CSV or Excel and time ranges.
For example, when I see under "social networking", facebook.com, I'd like to know if this was simply a popup ad on another website that was accessed or if facebook was used. Then I'd like to be able to see the login name used, and if possible, what profiles were searched, photos viewed, etc. What I see now when I click one of the links to the above is a white page, so I don't know what was accessed if anything.
How about a way to website visited activity to not be collected? That would be nice. Make it an option please. Love your program in general. Great work guys!
Please provide facilities in the software to analysis the internet usage. You can also provide separate user accounts so that each person using the system for surfing can be analyzed. An option for displaying usage trends with the help of bar diagrams, pie charts, graphs etc. will be also great if added. ;)
suggestion for monitoring/reporting features. With these features, K9 would be the most complete/useful program out there!
- Access to activity report without password
- emailed reports which include:
- blocked webpages, search terms, time of day use (morning/afternoon/evening/late night), social media use - time spent on friends profiles/chatting
- instant alerts to email and/or cell phone - if a blocked website or keyword is attempted
excel or cvs file.
If I am looking at the log of internet activity I see things that are blocked by category or what have you because it happened to be on the page in ads or a link is provided. I would like to see an interface that is more basic and simplistic in that it would show only where the kids actually went and what they actually sought out on their own such as links they actually clicked on, searches performed, etc. The interface is really confusing when you look at it and try to figure out what they actually did versus what the program is recording as far as internet activity.
I have K9 set to block everything except things on my white list. When the kids need access to some new website, I manually add it to the white list. Sometimes it isn't as simple as typing in the root domain (e.g. mail.yahoo.com). The site may rely on other sites to make it work. I have to comb through the Activity Detail pages to find the site that was blocked that may be needed. Please add the ability to filter out the allowed sites so I can narrow my focus to only the blocked sites.
Record and report which process (path and/or process id) attempts to access a restricted website.
I find the "View Internet Activity" area very difficult to use. It is easier to view internet history by checking the internet browser history than it is to use K9. Browser histories are clean and easy to use. You can see what websites were accessed without the entire web addresses being listed. Since the internet browser history can be erased, is there anyway that K9 can integrate this type of layout into its internet history? It would great if the websites were listed in single line format instead of paragraph format. I have mostly given up on checking the K9 history because I cannot tell what most of the addresses are. PLEASE change the layout so it is full screen view and single line format. Another great feature would be to have a search box. If the admin could search websites or keywords without having to look individually in each category (which is very slow and time consuming), this would help tremendously!
Currently, it seems that if a popup comes up of an inappropriate site it will show up the same on the "blocked" list as a web site that was actually searched for. (ex. playing a game on a game site...ad on side of page pops up as blocked due to porn. this shows up as a hit on the blocked list of searched for items...) Making a way to differentiate, when checking recent activity, whether it was an intentional looking up of inappropriate content vs a popup could be very beneficial.
Sometimes I visit a site and there's a blocked site in the background which effects the function of the site , and I don't know that it's k9's fault unless I view it unfiltered somewhere else . I would like to be able to see at least know that something has been blocked (let's say in the last 15 minutes or so).
The "activity report" as it is now is "useless". Please add a simple list of all the websites my child visits....like a "web history" that can not be deleted. Now THAT would be helpful! Thanks...
this way if we are trying to keep someone else accountable we are able to look into certain times that we may not have been present. Rather then having to page through everything in the history.
logs should be exported, viewing logs should be more clear. Site is to narrow for latest monitors -it should be autoexpanding (columns of log)depends on wide of the webbrowser. In actual case viewing logs is very unclear.
Translate option will be nice -better way is to put translation in outside of kfilter file and allow users to help in translation, which could be distributed with newer version of software like eg. irfanview do.
when trying to monitor internet activity, it is difficult to see if a site was actually typed in by a user, or if it is a background request being triggered by an approved site they are already on. can you highlight what is actually being searched by the end user to distinguish it from other searches initiated by something offsite?
"URL Requests" section. Would be great if you could just choose a time period you want to see instead of the whole report which takes forever to download and is frustrating to use. for instance if you want to check the last hour your child was online only.
I agree with Kevin (Dec. 14, 2012 comment). When visiting an innocuous page such as usatoday or foxnews, that single visit logs every banner and every linked news article, advertisement, etc. So one visits the news and the page prepares to load anything linked to the page. K9 reports every link even when not visited.
I agree, option to export to CSV would be really useful.
i agree. should have differentiation
i agree. I wanted to monitor internet usage. Unfortunately, K9 is logging every banner ad, hyperlink on a page. It makes it difficult to see what websites are actually visited.

Great idea, very necessary, I hope we get neater, easy-to read tables soon
No I wanted to be able to see that without logging in . (I don't keep the password to my installation of k9)
What does it mean when in the report a site is listed in red? Does that me we visited it but were denied?
I use K9 primarily for the reports but I don't understand how to see the sites that were visited based on the jumble of letters that are not links. Here's an example: www.google.com/xjs/_/js/s/s,st,anim,bbd,c,sb,hv,wta,cr,cdos,sk,pj,tbpr,tbui,spp,rsn,ob,mb,lc,dict,du,ada,hss,bihu,lu,m,shb,tng,j,ig,pcc,csitl/rt=j/ver=-YTNZiyNl2s.en_US./d=1/rs=AItRSTPOna8b5LEz0mR0dniAQkRUD0QhZA
Is it perhaps only my computer or is there a way to view what was viewed by my child at all?
Having it clear and concise would be a cherry on top.
K9 is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This will be very useful feature
If you could clearly see (by date or month) a FULL list of sites visited (just like a normal web history which cannot be erased).
If this can also be emailed to the administrator of the k9 account, make it much easier.
Right now, the report is too difficult to read so I never check the report. Take too long.

When reporting; is it possible to get an email report for my accountability partners?

it is difficult to search only by topic when concerned with current use by a child, so much easier if there is an option allowing "view internet activity by timeline" not just by topic
Yes, those viewing screens to see the logs are very small. They don't stretch when I maximize my browser but just stay tiny. I would like them to fill the whole page and add simple dropdown controls above the main table to filter the view on different criteria. It doesn't have to show the entire URL for each row either; it could just show the domain name to save space, until the user hover's their mouse over it to see the full URL.
There is currently a way to choose to view requests by month, and requests by day - but I agree, that it would be really nice to have the ability to be more granular in report display date ranges.
Part of the value-add of Internet Security is blocking / filtering internet activity. The other is managing your filters and traffic with good reports. Unfortunately the reports are not exportable and the viewing screens are crammed and not friendly. Allow export to csv for further review on all "clickable" stats on K9.
