Add Support for Multiple User Profiles
Currently, K9 Web Protection will apply the same filtering policy for all user profiles configured on your computer. This feature is to add different filtering rules for each user.
control de horario para cada usuario
When install K9 on windows 2008 r2 server ; filtering applies for all users and administrators ; is there any way so we can apply it for a group of users only? My server is in workgroup not a Domain.
one password should allow certain levels of access to open up, while a 2nd password would allow other levels to open.
I can not find anywhere on the faq's or support that tell how to disable k9 on my account but leave it active on my childs... where would i find that?
It would be great to be able to set up different K9 settings for different Windows users on the same computer. On my son's laptop, I have myself as a admin user, then his user which is a standard user, then I have a third user login that is for his school. It would also be nice to be able to adjust the settings for any of the users remotely instead of having to be on his laptop to adjust or change them. Thanks!
It is quite annoying if we need to use the same computer with the kids and not able to access to filtered sites like Facebook and chat platforms etc only with Supervisor mode every hour. If this different filter policies on various user accounts are not supported in the foreseeable future, what about adding the choices of prolonging the 'Supervisor mode' to longer periods, say 3 hours?
It will be a good idea if K9 combines parent control with time restriction feature for different users - it is now available for one user, but think of expanding it to other user, too. This way, a user with administration feature could limit other users on the same computer.
Create individual user accounts for shared home computers so each child is given a password (set-up by the administrator) allowing each users needs & time restrictions to be customized.
Add ability to configure different blocking rules for different user profiles in a desktop computer. Now when I set more strict rules for my child in my desktop computer, the restrictions are not only for her user account, but for all other user accounts, which is annoying when I am in my user account. All user accounts are password protected, so my child cannot access the accounts from the adults in our household anyway. It will be nice to be able to set different level of restrictions for each user account, according to their needs.
I have an Inspiron dell computer with windows 8 and I need some kind of porn blocker on MY account but not on the other one. Is there a way to download it and have the protection on my account but not the other?
Also I have some reccomendations. I know you block key words but I have found out you can still use them by misspelling or using something different like p0rn, masterbate, m@sterbating etc... Or even just the words gay or lesbian (which I think would be good to block because kids don't need to know about that kind of thing) Also I don't think you block wikipedia for using the actual words. And wikipedia does use pictures. Or on amazon.com you can look at porn type movies and watch the trailers or get a preview from a sex position book with pictures. I'm sorry it's a lot but I just wanted to bring these to your attention.
configure different blocking rules for the different user profiles so under age kids will be subject to restrictions but not adults
if you can configure it for various account, it would be easier for those of us who share our computers with our children, and allow us to configure separate blocks for children of various ages
Have the option to request a login upon accessing the Internet. So you can see who has been on a website rather than a long list of sites accessed.
My computer has 2 users. One is my son's( no password needed) and the other (password protected) is for adults in the family. I suggest that I can program his account to have all the restrictions and the other account (administrator) have no restrictions.
Not able to modify the filters per user. A site suitable for an adult may not be suitable for a child. This should be changed so that you can filter by user logged in. Seems like this should be very easy as part of the website exception list.
I have 6 users on one computer and would like each account to have a different level of security. Is this a feature that can be done?
LOVE THIS SOFTWARE!!!! but i wish i could set it for just the childrens account and not mine
A bit frustrating my account is filtered, we need a way to filter separate accounts on a computer and the ability to shut off filtering on some. My computer has separate accounts for my daughters (for whom the k9 is intended) however I need my account to have full access to the web for work, the only way to shut off filtering for my account is to disable the k9 for the entire computer (and then only for an hour) This is so I can work, but there are two problems with this method, 1. if my girls use the computer on their accounts after I have disabled the K9 for my account, they now have 100% access to the web unfiltered for the remaining time left. 2. If I shut off filtering and have to work at my computer for a day, the limit for shutting it off is only 1 hour, countless times now my computer locks up the web and in process of turning off filtering I lose my current work or the website I'm working on and have to start over. We need a way to filter (or shut off filtering entirely)for separate accounts.
Do you have a way where I can set levels by user?
Example: administrator gets moderate filtering regular and or guest user would have strict filtering.
if i use 1 user my son another my daughter another, wouldn´t it be great to have k9 all set up for every user to his/her category?
so however it´s set up, by different profile or just having the option of changing the settings on every user account.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
And where can I allow my children to visit certain youtube sites?
No. 1: How do I tell the computer that only my two kids aren't allowed to visit certain pages? There are two adults connected to the system as well ...
No. 2: K9 now blocks all "Youtube" entries, which is not what we want.
Can somebody help?
It would be nice if you were able to have mutiple passwords, i.e., different passwords based upon the different catagories that can be blocked. This would allow some users to access certain websites while preventing other from that same site
It would be very helpfull if the administrator would have an ability to select which accounts to protect and which not. For example, protect kids' accounts but not parents'.
Many users may use a computer. I only wish to restrict my children, but can only apply restrictions to everyone.
for K9 to block other users profile on my computer however not administrater profile
i would love to see it's possible to make different settings for different user accounts on the computer, my son has one account and for that i would like to have more strict settings, but not for my and my wife's user account..
Please add a feature, so it can b
e per user, so I can configure it for my son's account, not a general account.
Standardise Save Cancel buttons in Advanced settings
We have two kids of different ages (and so different interests). All of us use the same computer. Can we use different set-ups for the different sessions adapted to each kid.
Thanks for your answer.
since the protection is not user specific and this is my computer that my daughter uses only on occassion, it's very annoying for me to have to constantly change the settings back and forth. additionally, even after going into supervisor mode (for only 60 mins), i would continue to get blocked when trying to visit sites.
K9 offers a feature that can have different configurations for different users in the same PC.
Thanks for that awesome software and giving it for free to everyone. Your contribution to family safety is very big and I appreciated that. If you allow me to say one thing about your software is account based filtering. For example I have created limited account for my 6 years old son but your program also blocking and asking admin password for my account aswell. If there would be an option to apply K9 Web filtering only selected account that would be great. Unfortunately Ive removed this software only for that reason and looking forward to see that feature.
divide the program to many users in same computer.
This is a feature we are investigating for a future release of K9.
Hi all. So the last response was Jun 6of 2011 more than 4 years ago. Any headway?
With this feature enabled i think it will help
a lot, like filtering the kid's user's and the
parents users like "Administrator" unrestricted access.
Any news? Can't find this feature in the latest version, Nov. 2015
Considering the app and the website still cite 2009/2010 information/data, I'm not surprised this feature is still "under development." People are chiming in every few weeks asking for this! What's the deal?
Same as all the other comments.
I need to be able to set different configurations for the adults and the kids.
And come on, June 2011. We are October 2015 !
Why is it so difficult to add this function ?
Please, please, please, please !
I use my PC for work nearly every day. I probably spend close to 35 hours a week on my PC, and my wife another 5 or so. My son uses maybe 2 hours. Having to set the same policy for everyone regardless of which account it logged in when it only needs to apply to the minority users is a deal breaker. Otherwise, this is a great application that actually ended up catching some spyware on my PC that nothing else did.
I just started using this program as my older son was using it before to keep himself from going places he shouldn't. It is very annoying having to set it to supervisor mode just to work on my own computer that I share with my 13 year old for his homeschooling purposes. Why has this not been implemented before now...June 2011?!
I can't see the point in having this software without this feature.
I am looking for a solution to this issue myself and I see in June of 2011 you were working on this, so do we have the ability to use groups yet? I am new to K9, but I am very hopeful this software will work for us.
Have you been working on this feature for 4+ years????? Completely useless without this feature. Actually I shouldn't say feature - I should say standard offering. How could you not sup[port multiple accounts on 1 PC? Ir's 2015 .... holy moly
This is definitely needed and one of the main reasons why I am not using this software.
I have 2 kids that use the same laptop and would like to allow different privileges per user. I could see this as an awesome addition.
I would add that reports need to be user specific too.
Please add different filtering policy for each user profile configured on same computer, especially for parents and kids sharing the same computer.
This is absolutely essential. Please respond to your users sooner rather than later, it's not really believable it should take 4 years to "investigate" this feature.

User profiles are essential, not only for kids, but to distinguish between me and my wife. I would love to restrict myself on time of day, sites, etc...but can't because my wife has to enter a password for every site or time of day that's not allowed in the settings. In the end she just turns the restrictions off due to inconvenience, and this is no help to me. I would be very grateful if you were to provide separate users, and settings for each user.
Thanks so much!
This is crazy. Multi-user support is a must when you have adults and children sharing the same computer!

The Per user settings is the most powerful feature which is missing and the such gap prevents me to use K9 in my Computer School.
I love K9.
I even tried setting up logon and logoff scripts in users local group policy that would start or stop the K9 service depending on whether I wanted the filtering to apply to that user or not. That doesn't work though because killing the service blocks everything :-(

Thought this software was great until I logged onto my own profile and found that I can't use the internet for anything.
Going to have to uninstall and find something that will apply settings to my kids profiles only.
